Robert Peiffer, DVM, PhD, DACVO
Dr. Peiffer is board certified in ophthalmology. He graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and went to Iowa State University for a small animal internship before returning to a busy small animal practice in Minneapolis. Dr. Peiffer subsequently received his ophthalmology training as an NIH fellow at his alma mater. He became board certified in ophthalmology in 1976 and received his PhD in 1981.
Dr. Peiffer was a faculty member at the University of Florida, University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, and the University of Pennsylvania. He has had a successful career as a researcher and educator in addition to directing region-wide veterinary referral practices in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
His professional recognitions and accomplishments include past-presidencies of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, the American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, and the International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology; being the first editor-in-chief of the specialty’s journal; and earning awards from the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association for professional and scientific achievement.
