Hero dog's final salute after a life of distinguished service

February 20, 2015

With a heavy heart, the staff of Saint Francis Veterinary Center pays tribute to K-9 Judge, who was laid to rest today, lovingly surrounded by his partners on the force, well-wishers, and our staff. Flanked by a police escort that included at least 70 officers from departments across South Jersey , and dignified as ever, Judge walked into the hospital effecting his “last bite” with a favorite training tool, head held high, side-by-side with his loyal partner in life and service, Corporal Michael Franks.

K-9 Judge served the residents of West Deptford for over 7 years and enjoyed a stellar career. K-9 Judge was deployed over 280 times in situations involving areas such as drug detection, tracking, and apprehension of suspects. Because of K-9 Judge’s fearless service, 152 suspects were arrested for criminal offenses, 3 motor vehicles were seized, 3 handguns were taken off of the streets, countless amounts of drugs were seized, and over $47,000 is currency were taken from people involved in illegal activity. This doesn’t even take into account the amount of positive interactions K-9 Judge had with our children and members of our community during demonstrations and events.

He was an officer with the West Deptford Police Department, a loyal partner to his fellow men and women in uniform, a forever friend to his handler Corporal Michael Franks, and a servant of justice for all of us. We are proud of K-9 Judge and grateful for his service. Our hearts go out to Corporal Franks, the West Deptford Police Department, and everyone whose life was made better because of Judge, may he rest in peace.
