Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology

Department of Diagnostic Imaging :: Radiology

Radiology is a medical specialty that employs the use of imaging, such as XRay, Ultrasound, CT Scan and MRI, to both diagnose and treat disease visualized within a patient’s body.  Radiologists use an array of imaging technologies to diagnose and treat disease.

xray roomThe Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Saint Francis is a critically important division of the hospital, because its doctors and staff are often at the center of diagnosing problems so that other specialists and experts can address conditions.  For example, a surgeon may coordinate closely with a radiologist by ordering an X-Ray or MRI to identify exactly what type of medical condition exists and specifically where in the body a procedure will be successful.  In this example, the radiologist will apply his or her very specialized expertise by reading the images and then informing the surgical team on exactly what medical challenges are evident prior to surgery.

Diagnostic imaging is a centrally important part of the overall care a patient receives at Saint Francis Veterinary Center.
