Mark Newkirk, BS, MS, VMD, was appointed as Director of the Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine in January, 2013.
Since 1981, Dr. Newkirk has owned and operated successful practices that incorporated, and in some cases pioneered, natural and holistic therapies in New Jersey. As Owner and Founder of Newkirk Family Veterinarians in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Dr. Newkirk has focused on complementing Western medicine with the benefits of natural therapies. He oversees the care of dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and exotic pets.
Dr. Newkirk additionally incorporates the use of therapeutic laser, alternative allergy therapy (NAET), alternative treatments for cancer, chiropractic, nutritional counseling, homeopathy and stem cell transplant therapies.
He lectures frequently on complementary and alternative therapies and hosts a weekly radio program “All About Pets” on WOND 1400 in Atlantic City, NJ. He is a frequent contributor to Animal Wellness Magazine, PetMD, Pet360 and other nationally-known pet-related outlets.
Dr. Newkirk received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Rutgers University and his Master of Science in Animal Physiology from The Ohio State University. He received his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Newkirk has completed post-graduate training in alternative modalities including natural and holistic therapies, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (chiropractic), glandular nutritional therapy, cold laser therapy, N.A.E.T., and rehabilitation and physical therapy.
He is a Member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Newkirk joined the staff of Saint Francis Veterinary Center in 2012. As Director of the Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine, he is responsible the management of patient care as well as an executive portfolio that includes the development of medical protocols, design and publication of studies, and strategic growth of the Center.
